Energy Community Rheda-Wiedenbrück (DE)

The town of Rheda-Wiedenbrück is located in the south-eastern part of the Westphalian lowland bay. The total area is around 87 km². Rheda-Wiedenbrück has about 50,000 inhabitants. The settlement and landscape area are characterised by the Ems lowlands, partly small-scale agricultural areas and the scattered farmsteads typical of the landscape. The city recently has gained its first citizen energy community, the BEG 33, which was founded in April of 2023 and is preparing future PV projects. The mayor, Theo Mettenborg, is chairman of the advisory board. Several members of the BEG 33 had attended SHAREs meetings in the past.

Testimonial

"There is already a successful energy community in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, the Rhe-Wie. It operates 2 Enercon E-82 E2 wind turbines, which together produce between 8 and 10 million kWh of electricity annually and thus contribute to the energy transition. In the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrück, we would like to facilitate the establishment of further successful energy communities by participating in the SHAREs project.”
