City of Varna

Varna is the largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. It is the administrative centre of the municipality and the region. With a population of around 350 000, it stands as the third-largest city in Bulgaria, known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant maritime history. The region of Varna's infrastructure includes a significant focus on sustainable practices, exemplified by its investment in renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. Within the city, numerous local initiatives spearheaded by active citizens focus on enhancing energy efficiency, making their communist-era residential buildings more environmentally sustainable and shrinking their carbon footprint. Through the SHAREs project, four of these initiatives receive administrative, legal and communicational support. Among them, two target the replacement of vertical hose reels, while the remainder plan the implementation of shared and collectively owned rooftop photovoltaic systems. Their business model is presented in a comprehensive step-by-step fashion on the Bulgarian Gateway, complemented by readily available document templates.
