Alsómocsolád (HU)
Alsómocsolád is an over 700 years old settlement with around 300 inhabitants located in the south of Hungary with an innovative, initiative-taking rural municipality committed to climate issues. Since 2021 the municipality has employed an Environment and Climate referent. They assessed the energy performance of about 90% of the occupied properties, carried out a solar potential study for 35 properties.
The village is member of the Covenant of Mayors, in September 2022, the SECAP of the municipality was completed. The aim of the municipality is to support local households with the improvement of energy efficiency and renewable energy use and to share electricity among municipal buildings and households. Several municipal buildings are equipped with solar panels and have also been renovated for energy efficiency.
Testimonial
“The fact that climate change - with all its negative effects - is here is no longer a question. The only question is, will we suffer these negative effects and fight a windmill battle against drought, floods, heat waves, migration, energy poverty, or will we voluntarily choose simplicity, human relations instead of overconsumption, bicycles instead of driving a car, renewables instead of fossil energy? Of course, the transition would be difficult alone. We need a community, we need innovators, good examples that have already been implemented, and we also need those to whom we can transfer the knowledge, so that the change is truly profound.”
- Ms Gabriella Zagyva, Environment and Climate referent of Alsómocsolád
